Lisa Schuman, LCSW, RMA of New York’s staff Psychotherapist, in partnership with Single Mothers by Choice, is holding an informational event and support session for women who are considering or have chosen single motherhood. The event is open to all women in all stages of their reproductive journey.

Lisa Schuman, LCSW is a Psychotherapist who has been counseling individuals, couples and groups on a variety of issues and has specialized in reproductive medicine for over a decade. Ms. Schuman helps individuals through family building processes such as IUI and IVF, ovum and sperm donation, oocyte cryopreservation, perinatal loss, surrogacy and adoption.

SMC provides support and information to single women who are considering, or have chosen, single motherhood. SMC’s members meet with one another all over the United States, Canada, Europe, and beyond. SMC’s members network with one another and share information and resources about donor insemination, adoption, and parenting at local levels and/or through lively online discussion forums and newsletters.

Dr. Grunfeld Discusses PGD

Dr. Lawrence Grunfeld Discusses Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD)Dr. Lawrence Grunfeld, Infertility Specialist at RMA of New York, discusses Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis and Screening. Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) is an advanced genetic technique that allows an individual embryo to be analyzed. PGD is a recommended procedure for patients who are affected by a genetic condition or are carriers of a genetic anomaly and are at risk of passing the anomaly on to their offspring. Preimplantation Genetic Screening (PGS), on the other hand, may be used when patients do not have a known genetic disorder, but are experiencing infertility related to recurrent miscarriage or unsuccessful IVF cycles. PGD technology used with in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment can improve the likelihood of a successful and healthy pregnancy.

Dr. Georgia Witkin, Clinical Psychologist at RMA of New York fertility center, discusses Egg Donation, also known as Ovum Donation or Donor Egg IVF. Egg donation is a fertility treatment option for women and couples interested in conceiving with the use of donor eggs. It can be an option for women whose own eggs are unable to achieve a pregnancy due to advanced reproductive age, genetic abnormalities, previous surgeries and/or other conditions. Dr. Witkin dispels the myths and explains the facts about egg donation and using donor eggs to become pregnant.

Dr. Bar-Chama on Male Infertility

Dr. Natan Bar-Chama, Male Infertility Specialist and Urologist at Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York, discusses male infertility testing and treatment options. Dr. Bar-Chama explains that an initial workup typically includes a semen analysis and an overview of the man’s medical history. Male infertility treatments include: hormonal & medical treatments, microsurgical reconstruction (vasectomy reversal, varicocele repair), ICSI (intracytoplasmic sperm injection), microscopic testicular sperm extraction, and electroejaculation. Dr. Bar-Chama works with expert Female Fertility Specialists at leading NYC fertility center, Reproductive Medicine Associates of New York (RMA of New York), to provide coordinated care to treat the whole patient couple experiencing infertility.

Dara Godfrey Discusses Nutrition

Dara Godfrey, MS RD, Discusses Nutrition & FertilityDara Godfrey, MS RD, Nutritionist at RMA of New York, discusses how she supports patients’ nutritional goals before, during, and after fertility treatment. Infertility specialists may also recommend that patients with some medical conditions, such as Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), seek nutritional counseling prior to starting treatment. Dara recommends that both male and female patients reduce alcohol and caffeine consumption when trying to conceive. She stresses the importance of incorporating a variety of foods in one’s diet, including fruits, vegetables and lean proteins, as well as lots of water. Dara recommends including one source of full fat dairy products a day. She advises patients to choose fish sources that are low in mercury. She also highly recommends taking prenatal vitamins when trying to conceive.
